Alice is a Commercial Analyst, based in the London office, responsible for reporting for the commercial areas of the business, including; marketing, sales customer success and producing analyses and models to support decision making.

Alice has a master's in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Cambridge and prior to joining Vortexa, worked as an Account Manager and Web Analyst at the digital marketing agency, Brainlabs. As soon as the pandemic lifts, Alice can’t wait to go hiking and swimming as she loves the outdoors!

What does day-to-day life in your role look like?

My work is largely project based so I have a lot of variety from day-to-day. I typically will have focus time to work on projects in the morning with meetings in the afternoon. I set aside a portion of my time each week for report maintenance and sharing insights from these.

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

I get to work across all of the commercial teams which I love because I get a variety of different opinions and to learn from lots of other people’s experiences. This is particularly important as it helps me combine my experience of digital markets with the complex drivers of the commodity markets.

What was your path to joining Vortexa?

After a variety of internships spanning engineering to accounting I still had no idea what I wanted to do! I joined Brainlabs on their account manager grad scheme, running paid search and social activity for clients in a range of industries before moving into web analytics focussing on E-commerce. I decided I wanted to move in-house to be able to see projects through from start to finish, so I joined Vortexa and haven’t looked back!

What kind of qualities does a person need to have to succeed at Vortexa?

Be a self-starter and really eager to learn. Being a team player and enjoying a collaborative environment is really important.

What do you like about the culture?

I started remotely during the first lockdown so haven’t experienced the office culture at Vortexa. But from my experience so far, Vortexa really encourages learning and innovation and I love that.

Who do you collaborate most with in the company?

Depends which project I’m working on as these can involve all teams in Vortexa, but I work closely with the rest of the Revenue Operations team and the Digital Marketing team every day.

What are the first three things you do on a Monday morning?

I start my week with a run along the Thames then grab a coffee with my flatmates. I then refresh my weekly reports and then flag any successes or concerns with the relevant teams.

What energises you most about working as a Commercial Analyst?

I constantly am pushed out of my comfort zone and am given the space to tackle challenges and learn.

In celebration of Pride month, Vortexa invited special guest Tony McCaffery, Founder and Managing Director of Diversity Co; the home of equity, diversity and inclusion consultancies to share his own experiences as a queer and mixed-race person of colour living with disabilities. We asked Tony to further educate us on the subject of intersectionality and most importantly, to articulate how best we can actively support LGBTQIA+ communities.
