Will is a Lead Market Analyst based in the US, responsible for producing insights from our platform and data in the form of blog pieces, client notes, special reports, and webinars.

Prior to Vortexa, Will worked as a ship-tracking analyst within various consulting, operating, planning, and trading environments across several energy commodities over the last decade.

Fun fact: Will once designed a dressing room for Lady Gaga!

We wanted to find out what inspired William to join Vortexa, what some of his biggest milestones have been to date, and what day-to-day life really looks like for a Lead Market Analyst, Americas...

What inspired you to join Vortexa?

The opportunity to join something new and help build the organisation in the Americas from the ground up was the most inspiring part of joining Vortexa.

''...the culture here is incredibly apparent, from leadership on down I’m surprised by how often care and time is given to cultivating the culture of the organisation.''

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

I get to come in every day and try and use our data as our clients do in an attempt to find new and better use cases for our services.

What have been some significant milestone moments for you at Vortexa?

I’d say that the biggest milestone moment I have experienced at Vortexa to date, would have to be orchestrating and ideating the Vortexa Market Intelligence Report. What originally started out as just an idea I  kicked around with our Sales Director, transformed into a formal publication with marketing and design support, emailed out to clients on a regular basis. This really is a testament to the collaborative environment and collective commitment to excellence here at Vortexa.

What does day-to-day life look like for you as a Lead Market Analyst?

My mornings begin with research for the Vortexa Market Intelligence Report, so I try to find a flow, region or vessel of note and attempt to use the power of our data to identify trends and opportunities in markets. From there it is on to meetings with colleagues here in the Americas and internationally.

''...The opportunity to join something new and help build the organization in the Americas from the ground up was the most inspiring part of joining Vortexa.''

What key qualities make a Lead Market Analyst successful?

I think a successful Market Analyst must possess the curiosity to constantly ask not what happened but what is happening right now and what will happen in the future.

How would you describe the culture at Vortexa?

The culture at Vortexa is very open and compassionate, everyone genuinely cares for one another.  I’d also say the culture here is incredibly apparent, from leadership on down I’m surprised by how often care and time is given to cultivating the culture of the organisation.

What advice would you give people hoping to join Vortexa?

Be flexible. As a fast-growing, nimble organization we are constantly looking to fill requirements in novel ways. You’d be surprised what roles you may be asked to fill.

Describe your working life at Vortexa in three words?

Fast, varied and exciting.

In celebration of Pride month, Vortexa invited special guest Tony McCaffery, Founder and Managing Director of Diversity Co; the home of equity, diversity and inclusion consultancies to share his own experiences as a queer and mixed-race person of colour living with disabilities. We asked Tony to further educate us on the subject of intersectionality and most importantly, to articulate how best we can actively support LGBTQIA+ communities.
