Knowing who’s behind a trade or the patterns of behaviour your competition is engaging in with their flows can be the key factor in making a profitable trade. This counterparties' data, however, is heavily fragmented, difficult to consolidate, and is not always simple to tie to specific cargo movements. At Vortexa, we’re taking another step forward to get you there by enriching our world-class data with shipper and consignee information.

Shipper: The party that arranges shipment—usually the exporter or its freight forwarder—also called the consignor. In practice: typically the exporter/forwarder, sometimes the importer.

Consignee: The party named on the bill of lading to receive the goods. In practice, usually the receiver or a forwarding agent.

The shipper/consignee data can be a proxy for buyer/seller data. Our initial release is primarily focused on supporting traders & analysts doing business and trading to and from the USA. Vortexa shipper/consignee data will help you to:

  • Prioritise regional trading counterparties to engage with for the highest chances of success

  • Do historical trend analysis on certain entities to see if there are seasonal patterns to their buying/selling patterns

  • Identify regions that are attracting new participants, as that may be an indicator of new opportunities for you to enter

Slice flows by specific shippers and consignees in Vortexa's platform and in cargo movement views or pull the fields via API. Behind the scenes, Vortexa’s expert team normalises entity names, dedupes aliases, maps corporate families, and cross-verifies against multiple sources, so you’re matching the right counterparty every time. Vessel overlays also surface the relevant shipper and consignee for each movement.
