Julia is the Product Marketing Lead, responsible for developing and implementing customer-centric go-to-market strategies and launches for existing and new products.

Prior to joining Vortexa, Julia worked in the Energy data intelligence and analytics industry for over seven years, at companies including the likes of Platts and ICIS; part of LexisNexis Risk Solutions.

Fun Fact: Julia had lived in seven different countries so far, including Russia, Finland, Sweden, USA, Germany, The Netherlands and the UK.

We wanted to find out what Julia keeps an eye out for when searching for new hires, how she sums up our company culture and what day-to-day life as a Product Marketing Lead really looks like?

What inspired you to join Vortexa?

I have been working in the energy data intelligence space for over seven years, mainly in corporate environments. When the opportunity to join Vortexa came up, I was impressed with the company culture, bright people and Vortexa’s Analytics; which I considered to be a very unique product within the energy market today. It was no brainer for me to join an exciting start-up where I could see how my knowledge and experience would directly contribute to the growth of the company.

”…The projects which took me months to deliver in my previous job took me only a few weeks to deliver in Vortexa. This speed is unbelievable and unthinkable for big corporations!

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

The Product Marketing role at Vortexa combines a unique mix of data-driven and creative skills. One day I can be working on market sizing and audience segmentation data, the next I am creating a new customer-facing content piece or internal sales training. The role requires you to be an expert on buyers in order to develop product positioning and messaging that is clear, defensible and differentiates the product from other competitors within the market. It’s very rewarding to work on scaling products globally and ensuring a customer-centric approach to product launches and growth. The job is never boring!

What have been some significant milestone moments for you at Vortexa?

When I’d just joined Vortexa, the company was taking its new game-changing Freight Analytics product to the energy and shipping market. This was a significant launch of a stand-alone product and a huge milestone Vortexa had been working towards for some time. I am glad I could directly contribute to the launch of the product and take this product to the growth stage.

What does day-to-day life look like for you as a Product Marketing Lead?

As a Product Marketer, I need to cooperate with many different stakeholders throughout my day. The collective spirit of Vortexa colleagues allows me to seamlessly collaborate on the go-to-market strategy and execution. I usually start my morning by checking on important emails and Slack messages before I go through my to-do list and define key deliverables for the day. I divide my responsibilities between go-to-market and product launches, content, messaging and design, engagement with commercial and campaign marketing teams on GTM alignment and execution.

What key qualities do you look for in potential candidates hoping to join your team?

I admire people who are not afraid to communicate directly and honestly but are also able to remain humble at the same time. It is important for people not to fear giving and receiving feedback, as it is critical to progress professional and individual growth. I look more for the right attitude, willingness to learn and suitable fit to the overall company culture, rather than years of experience in a resume. I also like to give chances to young ambitious individuals who can quickly learn and kick-start their careers.

How would you describe the culture at Vortexa?

It’s collaborative, straightforward and fast-paced. The projects which took me months to deliver in my previous job took me only a few weeks to deliver in Vortexa. This speed is unbelievable and unthinkable for big corporations! This is only achieved as everyone is motivated to work towards the same goal, willing to go the extra mile and make decisions fast for the good of the entire company.

Describe your working life at Vortexa in three words?

Creating the future of energy!
