A day in the life of Wanying Zhang, Freight Analyst
Ever wondered what a day in the life looks like at Vortexa for a Freight Analyst? We sat down with Wanying to find out what her day-to-day life looks like.

Discover what it's like to be a full stack engineer at Vortexa as Jakub Buskiewicz shares insights into his daily work and our company culture.
Jakub moved permanently to the UK in 2022. Before this he lived the majority of his life in Poland with some shorter periods of living in Bristol. As you can see in the picture he’s not afraid of getting his hands dirty during 10km Obstacle Course Race 😎 Prior to joining Vortexa, Jakub worked at various companies e.g. as a frontend consultant for the biggest international biopharma and laboratory equipment supplier as well as a full stack engineer for a US music startup. Also as a Javascript teacher! Fun fact: Jakub used to play the trumpet for his high school orchestra which is one of the best in Poland!
The only constant part of day-to-day work is the daily meeting of the team which takes place at the same time every day. Apart from that, not two days are the same. You may develop new features, investigate new technologies, maintain our platform, fix bugs, discuss product roadmap. There are so many possibilities!
Probably the most interesting aspect of being a full stack engineer is the possibility of wearing different hats. One day you may be delivering a frontend feature, the other - being involved in DevOps or backend work. It’s definitely not what everyone would like to do but I’m really enjoying it!
Before joining Vortexa I created an account on the hiring websites and Andrew, one of our recruiters, sent me an offer there. And that’s how it started 🙂Several calls and tasks later I’ve received a job offer letter!
Keep your mind open - there’s a lot to learn
Be curious and eager to discover new things
Communicate well and do not be afraid to ask questions
Remember that done is better than perfect - there’s always a space for improvement
Vortexa has a unique culture that encourages you to be the best version of yourself. Every single person I’ve had a chance to collaborate with is supportive and open-minded. There are no bad or stupid questions and we’re discussing different possibilities and ideas very often. Working with such bright minds and enthusiastic people sparks a lot of joy. Vortexa’s culture has its own drive.
As an Application Development Team member I collaborate with my pod for most of the time, but during my work I also collaborate with Product owners, Designers, DevOps team, members of other pods and teams eg. Data Production Team, Customer support team. It depends on the work I’m currently doing and it’s a great opportunity to collaborate with team members I usually do not work that often.
Usually I’ll start my Monday morning with a cup of brewed coffee followed by breakfast and meditation. Once I’m done - I’m preparing myself to work, reviewing Friday's progress, planning my day and preparing for my team’s meeting. Then the actual work steps in.
Company’s culture!
