Women's History Month: In Conversation with Chiara Meola

Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself, your role at Vortexa and what led you to the role you are in today? 

I studied International Business whilst at University which allowed me to study abroad for a year in Sydney, followed by a year in Amsterdam. During my second semester in Amsterdam, I chose evening classes so that I could look for a day job to get some global work experience. An opportunity arose for an Events Manager at ING Bank. Before then, I’d never considered working in events, but they told me that they thought I’d be perfect for the role, so I accepted the offer and haven’t looked back! Since then, I’ve worked in various event roles across multiple companies, and joined Vortexa as Community Manager EMEA in October 2022.

In your opinion, why is it important to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month? What do these annual events mean to you?

 It’s an annual celebration to admire the incredible women around me, see how far we have come, whilst calling out inequality and how far we have to go. We can all play a part!

Which women inspire you? 

If I had to pick one, it would be Jacinda Ardern. This is because she’s an example of what leaders should look like: authentic, empathetic, and bold.  Ardern’s active choice to embrace empathy, morality, and openness, traditionally feminine qualities, is what makes her a perfect example of what the leaders of the future should be like. 

What was the most important piece of advice you’ve been given that you’d like to share with other women? 

Do what makes you happy.
