Wein Jien works in the Analyst team and plays an integral role in our data quality and analytics activities and explores new ways of extracting valuable insights from our data.
After joining Vortexa as a Data Analyst Intern, Wein Jien graduated from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University and rejoined Vortexa as a Data Analyst.
Fun fact: Wein Jien loves Korean Drama and he’s currently learning Korean.

What does day-to-day life in your role look like?

Each day is really different and I cover various types of work each day. I will sometimes be focused on data analysis, and other times my work will be more geared towards data engineering, and occasionally providing support for our product specialists.

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

When performing analysis on Vortexa’s data sets I get to apply my knowledge of data science. I really enjoy this because we can deliver amazing insights for our clients by utilising data science alongside our indepth market knowledge at Vortexa.

What was your path to joining Vortexa? 

I initially joined Vortexa on a Data Analyst Internship and then post graduation I converted into a full time Data Analyst.

What kind of qualities does a person need to have to succeed at Vortexa?

I would say curiosity, and a real eagerness to learn, and to keep learning. In Vortexa, everyone has their own area of knowledge and expertise. As long as you want to learn, there are always people who can share their knowledge and give you advice; whether that is the domain area of technology, data science, freight or the energy markets.

What do you like about the culture? 

Everyone here is willing to help, and help each other to grow. My team always give me encouragement and support for the work I produce, as well as readily celebrating each other’s achievements. I always feel my contributions are truly appreciated at Vortexa.

Who do you collaborate with?

I often collaborate with the wider Research & Development team, to ensure we continue to improve the quality of our products. I also collaborate with product specialists to give technical support to our prospective customers.

What are the first three things you do on a Monday morning?

Have a coffee, check recent market news, and reply to emails/ Slack messages.

What energises you most about working as a Data Analyst at Vortexa?

The opportunity to explore. There are always projects that require different knowledge and I am always driven to learn different things.
