Jay is a Senior Market Analyst based in the London office, and works on delivering insights for customers, maintaining high data quality standards and product development. Prior to joining Vortexa, Jay worked as a Senior Reporter at Argus Media.

We wanted to find out what inspired Jay to join Vortexa, what some of his biggest milestones have been to date and what day-to-day life really looks like for a Senior Market Analyst…

What inspired you to join Vortexa?

I’ve always been interested in technology in some shape or form and I’ve been looking at energy markets for most of my career, so joining Vortexa seemed like the perfect opportunity! I was convinced that at Vortexa, I would have the chance to help build something truly impressive that can solve complex problems and transform an industry.

”…The culture is very friendly and collaborative. Everyone is humble, intelligent and willing to help. People work hard but always maintain a sense of humour!

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

It’s really hard to point to one specific thing as being the most interesting. Sometimes the most interesting thing is a strange event happening in the market that we want to research. But I also really enjoy the interactions with data scientists who find ways to extract and then scale our domain knowledge into our models. Another really interesting part of my job is the discovery work that happens in the run up to the eventual launch of a new feature.

What have been some significant milestone moments for you at Vortexa?

The rollout of Vortexa’s refined products floating storage data earlier last year was instrumental in helping our customers understand how and where supplies had accumulated in response to the shake up in oil demand from Covid 19. It was hugely satisfying to be part of a team that helped in getting this product to our customers just when they needed it the most.

What does day-to-day life look like for you as a Senior Market Analyst?

My typical day is made up of a mixture of activities including content generation, research into market trends, quality checks on our data and speaking with other teams/regions for collaboration and coordination.

”…I was convinced that at Vortexa, I would have the chance to help build something truly impressive that can solve complex problems and transform an industry.”

What key qualities make a Senior Market Analyst successful?

Curiosity, attention to detail and flexibility.

How would you describe the culture at Vortexa?

The culture is very friendly and collaborative. Everyone is humble, intelligent and willing to help. People work hard but always maintain a sense of humour!

What advice would you give people hoping to join Vortexa?

Be open to learning things that you may not have expected to learn, have a clear idea of what motivates you and then apply!

Describe your working life at Vortexa in three words?

Fast paced, innovative and collaborative.
