Carina joined us as a Customer Success Manager in late 2024, bringing with her over a decade of experience from Wood Mackenzie. Originally from Scotland, she’s been on a long journey south, working in Australia, then settling in London, and now enjoying coastal life. She’s always up for a chat about travelling, customer experience or escaping the cold!

Fun fact: Carina’s most random job was milking sheep on a farm in Tasmania during her gap year in Australia.

We wanted to find out what inspired Carina to join Vortexa, what some of her biggest milestones have been to date and what day-to-day life really looks like for a Customer Success Manager…

What inspired you to join Vortexa?

Vortexa stood out to me long before I even considered making a move. The way the company balances innovation with a strong focus on its people resonated with me. I’ve always been passionate about the energy sector, and seeing Vortexa bring new energy to the maritime industry through bold technology and forward-thinking ideas was inspiring. It felt like a place where I could do meaningful work and be part of something bigger. Another draw factor was that one of my favourite former colleagues had moved to Vortexa earlier that year and spoke very highly of the organisational culture.

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

The most interesting aspect of my role is connecting with people from all over the world, each with unique backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. One moment I might be speaking with someone in Asia, and the next with a colleague or client in Europe or the US. Being based in the UK gives me the unique advantage of bridging time zones and having meaningful interactions across regions. It’s a constant reminder of the global and diverse nature of our industry.

What have been some significant milestone moments for you at Vortexa?

One of my key milestones since joining Vortexa has been building strong relationships with my clients in a relatively short period. These connections have played a crucial role in supporting several recent client renewals.

What does day-to-day life look like for you as the Customer Success Manager?

Every day is different, depending on what’s happening in the world and what our clients need to know, no day is the same. One of the aspects I love about the role is the variety it brings and the new challenges that await me each day when I log on.

What key qualities make a Customer Success Manager successful?

A great Customer Success Manager combines commercial acumen with strong relationship-building skills. They think analytically to understand challenges and take a collaborative approach to find the best solutions. Most importantly, they’re good listeners who truly pay attention to what their clients need.

Vortexa’s all about that one team vibe. Everyone’s happy to jump in and help out.
How would you describe the culture at Vortexa?

Vortexa’s all about that one team vibe. Everyone’s happy to jump in and help out. It’s a collaborative environment, full of energy and passion, and it’s exciting to be part of as the company continues to grow.

What advice would you give to people hoping to join Vortexa?

My advice would be to stay authentic and come in with curiosity. Vortexa is a highly collaborative environment, so being open to teamwork and learning from others will set you up for success. A growth mindset goes a long way here.
