A Canadian, a Taiwanese, and a Hong Konger, Patty grew up on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver, Canada. In March 2020, she decided to take a leap of faith and moved to London, with hopes of frequently travelling across Europe. That did not happen much for the first 2 years of her move. But just being in London allowed her to see the world in a different way – that is to work with talented individuals from around the world.

Before joining Vortexa, Patty worked in strategy and marketing roles across a variety of industries, such as fintech, healthcare, hospitality, and telecom, ranging from multinationals to start-up environments.

Fun fact: Patty took the last flight out of Toronto before the UK officially closed its border due to the COVID pandemic back in March 2020.

We wanted to find out what inspired Patty to join Vortexa, what some of her biggest milestones have been to date and what day-to-day life really looks like for the Senior Product Marketing Manager…

What inspired you to join Vortexa?

One of my favourite books is called ‘The World for Sale,’ where it explores the complex dynamics of commodities trading and the delicate coordination required to logistically move resources around the world. Vortexa fulfilled my aspiration to play a part in this complex system, and to help bring advanced technological innovations to a sector that has been operating in more or less the same way for hundreds of years.

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

The nature of my role allows me to be involved in almost every aspect of the business, which means I am constantly learning. One moment I am attempting to understand the concepts behind advanced ML modelling with our Data Scientists, next moment I am trying to make sense of the daily fluctuations in the oil and gas market with our Analysts, and then I am evaluating how we can better serve our customers through better positioning and messaging with the Product and Marketing team. This constant engagement requires me to always evaluate my thinking from different angles and be able to view problems in different ways, which is what I enjoy the most about my role.

[...] people here have a can-do mentality and a strong focus on getting things done.
What does day-to-day life look like for you as the Senior Product Marketing Manager?

I have lots of meetings because I have many stakeholders with whom I need to maintain close contact. In addition, I dedicate time to reading the news and our Analysts’ reports to enhance my understanding of the industry and its key players. Lastly, I also need some quiet time to map out how we should take our products and features to the market.
