I’m a Full Stack Engineer in Vortexa’s Application Development Team. I’ve worked on multiple projects since joining, including our data API and Excel Addin. Originally from the South of France, I’ve been living in London for six years now, and have worked in tech for the same amount of time

Fun fact: I’ve been running the same campaign of Chroniques Oubliées (a game similar to Dungeons & Dragons) for close to four years now, and I am still very much enjoying it!

We wanted to find out what inspired Quentin to join Vortexa, what some of his biggest milestones have been to date and what day-to-day life really looks like for the Full Stack Engineer…

What inspired you to join Vortexa?

I came across the job opportunity on Linkedin and was immediately hooked by its description. Reading further about Vortexa on the website made me more excited. Then the whole recruitment process allowed me to get a better sense of what working for Vortexa would be like. And I enjoyed every step of the process. I talked to a lot of brilliant people and everyone was also very open and welcoming. It felt like the place to be, and since joining I still have the same impression!

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

The fact that we work on a wide variety of projects, using different languages and solutions. There is not one unique way to solve things and we are allowed to try new things, which is a huge opportunity to learn and grow. I’ve learnt and helped build a few projects in Rust here, that I never even touched before joining Vortexa, and that has been an amazing experience!

What have been some significant milestone moments for you at Vortexa?

Since I’ve arrived, I’ve been working on multiple different projects. Helping Build the Point in Time API in Rust as a first project was probably the most impactful experience. I’ve also contributed in improving and updating our Excel Addin integration.

What does day-to-day life look like for you as a Full Stack Engineer?

It starts with a cup of coffee, then reading and replying to emails. After that, it’s morning standups with my pod and the rest of the Application Development Team, so we all know where we’re at and what the next objectives are. Then I start work on the different tickets we have, send and review pull requests, sometimes we have a few meetings throughout the day.

Vortexa is also full of amazing people that are very friendly and always eager to help and share knowledge, or discuss and challenge ideas when needed.
What key qualities make a Full Stack Engineer successful?

I think having a curious mind, wanting to learn and grow. And also, working as a team, asking questions, giving and receiving feedback, sharing knowledge around, as there is no point in doing this journey alone, and having a team is very stimulating.

How would you describe the culture at Vortexa?

Impressive! From the start I was surprised by how open everything was. It’s very easy to know where we are at, what are the current objectives for the company, which helps understand the reasons behind our current work. Vortexa is also full of amazing people that are very friendly and always eager to help and share knowledge, or discuss and challenge ideas when needed. It feels like everyone in the company shares the same mindset and desire to go forward, and it’s quite a feat when you consider we’re over 100s now.

What advice would you give to people hoping to join Vortexa?

Just go for it!
