Serena is our Lead Market Analyst, who produces thought-leading market insights for our clients and leads the analysis team in APAC. She joined us as one of the first two pioneers of our Singapore office, with over eight years of technical and commercial experience in the oil industry.

We wanted to find out what inspired Serena to join Vortexa, what some of her biggest milestones have been to date and what she keeps an eye out for when searching for new members to join her team…

What inspired you to join Vortexa?

When I first heard about Vortexa’s cutting-edge data analytics, I was convinced that it has tremendous potential in transforming the commodities trading market. I was excited that I could put exclusive, thought-leading insights into the hands of traders, and would be spearheading Vortexa’s efforts in breaking new ground in the APAC region as one of the first two members in its newly formed Singapore office.

”…With our open culture and deep respect for every individual, we are able to bring our diverse knowledge, expertise and experience to the table to solve some of the most complex problems in the industry.

What would you say is the most interesting aspect of your role?

It is always satisfying to uncover market insights that give our clients an edge in the market using Vortexa’s vast datasets. Even more so is hearing feedback from them that our insights were pivotal in improving their analysis and decision-making.

What have been some significant milestone moments for you at Vortexa?

Building our brand and gaining the trust of our clients and partners, especially in the APAC region. When I first started two years ago, few people in the region knew who we were and what we offered. We committed ourselves to delivering high quality data and market insights, and built close relationships with our clients and partners, growing into a trusted data source for the industry today.

What does day-to-day life look like for you as Lead Analyst?

My typical work day is packed with a range of activities from data deep-dive to high-level planning and coordination. Client questions and media commentary requests would stream into my mailbox across the day, which I would respond to before getting back on my day’s tasks. Time flies every day because there is always something exciting to work on!

What key qualities do you look for in new joiners hoping to join your team?

We are looking for outstanding talents to join our team – individuals who are self-driven to dig deep into the data while keeping the big-picture end goal in mind, are constantly curious to look for the meaning – the “why” behind the numbers, and have the ability to transform data into valuable insights for our clients, all these within a fast-paced environment.

”…It is always satisfying to uncover market insights that give our clients an edge in the market using Vortexa’s vast datasets.”

How would you describe the culture at Vortexa?

We are highly driven, energetic and focused at work. With our open culture and deep respect for every individual, we are able to bring our diverse knowledge, expertise and experience to the table to solve some of the most complex problems in the industry. We celebrate each other’s successes along the way, and are friends outside of work.
